#TrashTag

There's one great social trend that has come out of 2019 so far and that's #TrashTag.

There are a million weird and wonderful things, and some not so wonderful to come out of social trends but 2019 has started with one that could just help improve the environment. This new craze, #TrashTag is taking over Instagram and Reddit and let's hope it’s a craze that sticks because this one is actually helping the environment. The idea is that you find an area that is littered with trash such as a beach, a park or a patch of road and you take a before picture, with all of the trash and an after picture, one where you’ve cleaned all of the rubbish and it looks beautiful again.

If you ask me, it is probably one of the best social trends I’ve seen doing the rounds in a while and it’s one of the very few that takes place off of Social Media.

Surprisingly enough, this trend isn’t actually new and made its debut in 2015 on Instagram but it didn’t really take off until the hashtag was brought back this year. Maybe due to the increase in rubbish, plastic and pollution, people are finally realising if we don’t do something about it, there will be a point of no turning back.

“It’s the only outdoors we have. We all use it for many different things but it is the only one we have. So let’s all do our part and treat it with respect. Let’s pick up after ourselves and then pick up extra. It only takes a few minutes of your time to pick up something that’ll far outlast us humans if left alone.”

Wise words from Cody Hanson who shared this on his Instagram page recently and he makes a valid point.

We all share the outside world, it belongs to all of us so we shouldn’t need some trend to encourage us to try and clean up the environment or the areas we spend our time, but if backing a social trend is what it takes, then I think we should all get on board.

I think I’m going to jump on this particular social bandwagon and do my bit to help out the environment with my very own #TrashTag.
